Julio Medem was born in San Sebastián, Spain. He studied medicine and surgery at the Universidad del País Vasco. His films include Vacas (92), for which he won the Best New Director Goya Award, Lovers of the Arctic Circle (98), Sex and Lucia (01), Chaotic Ana (07), Room in Rome (10) and Ma Ma (15).
