Congressman Anthony Weiner was known as a politician who fought tenaciously for what he believed in. But he became far better known when he posted an explicit photo on his Twitter feed, forcing his resignation in 2011. Two years later, as Weiner mounted a political comeback running for Mayor of New York City, filmmakers Josh Kriegman and Elyse Steinberg were there, gaining close access to his campaigns inner circle, including his wife Huma Adedin, one of Hillary Clinton’s top aides. When a fresh sex scandal breaks out, the cameras keep rolling and we get to witness a major operation of crisis management from the inside.

Weiner plays like a real-life version of “The Good Wife”, as we watch a political couple endure a tabloid feeding frenzy. Viewed against the backdrop of this year’s Presidential election, the film offers plenty to contemplate about the drive and endurance it takes to be a modern politician. – Thom Powers
