Original Title: ANACLETO: AGENTE SECRETO
Running Time: 93min
Film Year: 2015
Category: Lexus Ibero American Feature Film Competition
Suave secret agent Anacleto (Imanol Arias) is the picture of grace under fire. A fearsomely skilled combatant and collector of intelligence, Anacleto lives a life of international intrigue and near-constant danger—unbeknownst to his son, Adolfo (Quim Gutiérrez), who believes his father to be a vendor of cold meats. Adolfo’s life is the opposite of his father’s, comprised largely of dull shifts as a security guard and lazing in front of the television with his girlfriend Katia (Alexandra Jiménez). But just as Katia threatens to leave Adolfo for his lack of ambition, Anacleto comes home with a big surprise. A criminal mastermind Anacleto once apprehended has escaped from prison and now seeks revenge on our hero. If Adolfo wants to survive this father-son reunion he’s going to need to snap out of his lethargy and hone his killer instincts.
A giddy romp of a spy movie parody, Spy Time could just as easily be titled Jaime Bond Goes Bananas. The production of Javier Ruiz Calderon’s irreverent genius, the film bursts with comic-book energy. Guitérrez is delightfully daffy as the self-absorbed screw-up, while Arias, one of the great Spanish actors of his generation, reminds us of his comic talents with an expertly calibrated performance. Spy Time is about quality time between a parent and child—shifted into in delirious overdrive. – Jaie Laplante
