Panelists address the obstacles that women and people of color face from institutions. The participants offer their views on large-scale changes already taking place and propose potential solutions for the work that still urgently needs to be done. Biases are often deeply institutionally ingrained, and disrupting these entrenched dynamics is no easy undertaking.

This panel will be moderated by Debra Zimmerman, Women Make Movies.

Panelists include:

Alison Klayman is a director who shoots her own films. Her Sundance award-winning film Ai Wei Wei: Never Sorry was an Official Selection of Miami International Film Festival, and her short documentary “The 100 Years Show” appears in this year’s Festival.

Juana Macias is a director and editor from Spain, as well as the vice-president of the Asociación de Mujeres de 

Elle Schneider is a cinematographer and the Creative Director at Digital Bolex where she launched a grant competition to help women cinematographers and other women filmmakers get their feet in the door by putting equipment and seed money into their hands.

Yvonne Welbon is an award-winning independent filmmaker, producer, educator, entrepreneur, and consultant, and currently Interim Creative Director at Chicken & Egg Pictures.
